About Our Pastor
Terry Pollard has been the pastor of New Sharon United Methodist Church since July, 2011. Prior to coming to New Sharon, he served as pastor of the Alta-Schaller United Methodist Church parish from 2005-2011. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Religion degree in Overland Park in 1980, and has completed graduate studies at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO, Moody Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL, and St. Paul School of Theology in Overland Park, KS. Pastor Terry has served the general church in various ministry assignments throughout his 38-year ministry.
As an ordained minister he came to the United Methodist Church in 2004, having served for 24 years in several other Wesleyan-tradition denominations. Since 1980, he has pastored churches in Missouri, Washington, Louisiana, and Alabama before coming to Iowa. His wide and varied ministry has given him opportunity to serve as a senior pastor, Bible college associate professor, denominational editor, Sunday school curriculum writer and editor, and Christian school administrator. He has been active in mission trips overseas as well as pastoral leadership and community leadership training in various countries around the world. More recently, Terry served on the Iowa Annual Conference worship planning team, is currently the recording secretary of the Iowa Annual Conference Parish Development Committee, has been involved in various district committees as well as teaching for several years for the Lay Speaker's Training School, and has served as an instructor for the School of Christian Mission and the Mission Education Event in the Iowa Annual Conference.
Pastor Terry has served the church locally, nationally and throughout the world, providing him many "exciting opportunities to celebrate life in the name of the healing Christ."
Terry celebrates life with his wife Diana, who is a semi-retired part-time music instructor in a local public school and is also a local licensed pastor in the Iowa Annual Conference and currently serves at Harvey and Tracey United Methodist Churches. They have a family of five married children (Chad, Lance, Bradley, Danny, and Leandra) and are proud grandparents of 12 grandchildren (Mackenzie, Myleigh, Macey, Lainey, Hanley, Cash, Lincoln, Mason, Levi, Evelyn, Bridgett and Reagan), with a girl due in August, 2018 and another grandchild due in October, 2018.
Pastor Terry continues to enjoy his family, free-lance writing, sports officiating and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia. He is also a Missouri Tigers and Kansas City Chiefs fan. Diana and Terry also enjoy traveling literally "around the world."
His passion in ministry is to see the people he pastors develop into faithful disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.
