A Message From the Pastor
March 18, 2020
As we begin this new journey together, we do ask that you remember to continue to support our church ministry financially, at this time, while we are unable to meet together in person. As always, you will be able to give electronically on our website— www.newsharonumc.org –just scroll down the page and hit the button where it says “Give Now” and follow the instructions. You can also mail a check to the church @ New Sharon United Methodist Church, 101 N Main St Family Center, PO Box 70, New Sharon, IA. Or just bring your offering on down to Renee during our office hours!
I will be posting a link tomorrow via the Enews and Facebook letting everyone know the link to our upcoming services, we do ask you to bear with us as we work out the kinks and ultimately move from broadcasting via iPhone to the soundboard and computer which will give us much better sound. In the next few weeks it will be a work in progress.
I just wrote these down from an article I read yesterday— 10 Ways Christians Can Exemplify Faith and Peace during COVID-19:
1. Stay Informed and Only Spread Truthful
2. Do Not Surrender to Fear.
3. Practice Personal Hygiene
4. Choose Compassion over Personal Convenience
5. Don’t Buy What You Don’t Need.
6. Donate to Shutdown Schools and Contribute to
Employees Out of Work.
7. Don’t Isolate Yourself from the Body of Christ.
8. Be the Church.
9. Unleash the Power of Prayer.
10. Put your Hope and Trust in the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.1
I guess, in short, just be Jesus Christ to the world…and when this is all over…be Jesus Christ to the world…He is who we are expected to emulate everywhere and always …now, let Him work through us to be the salt and light of the world.
In the coming weeks this is going to be a trying time to many and I ask that we all may be a positive and encouraging influence on everyone's lives...many times it will be difficult and here's a prayer to help us through:
Dear Lord God, it pains me that so many people don’t understand the power of prayer and even mock me for taking my fears to you in prayer. So I pray first for those who do not believe in you. Where is their hope?
I confess that sometimes you seem far away when I so desperately want to hear from you. It’s really hurts waiting on you and yet I will wait because I know my prayers are not in vain. I don’t know if the latest crisis will affect my church family, family or me, but you are omniscient Lord, so I pray that you will spare us.
But if despair affects me or any of my loved ones, please comfort us with your healing hand. Sometimes our own choices can put us at risk. So Lord, I pray that we would all be sensible in our actions and interactions.
Help me continue in great peace because I put my hope into your powerful hands. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
